When you walk into La Hierbita, you’d be right to feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s home. Welcoming and warm, this restaurant lives in a 19th century Canarian house in the middle of Santa Cruz, Tenerife’s capital city. There are nooks and crannies everywhere and dining tables speckle the former rooms of the house, making the environment intimate and inviting.
When it comes to the food, the dishes served here are traditional as well. The menu has a long list of Canarian options, rustic and homemade with local ingredients. While you have the option to order dishes for yourself, we recommend picking a variety of plates to share so you have the opportunity to sample more of everything. Portions are large so don’t worry about going hungry. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, although mastery of the english language wasn’t their strength. You shouldn’t go to La Hierbita with the expectation of fine dining, but if you are looking for traditional food and atmosphere in the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this is the place to eat.
