Gaudí’s Park Güell
On a hill tucked away from the chaos of the city center you will find Park Güell, one of Barcelona’s top attractions. The majority of the park is public while more popular sections are ticketed, but they are well worth the entrance fee. A ticket will give you timed access to a large terraced garden punctuated by Gaudí’s famous mosaic work, known as the Monumental Zone. This is the place where you can lounge on Barcelona’s renowned serpentine bench and take in the colorful views or admire the buildings at the main entrance gate in more detail. For those who enjoy a bit of context with their sight seeing, we recommend that you go to the Gaudí House Museum, also inside of Park Güell, and learn about the history of the park and its origins. Guarantee your entrance to the Monumental Zone by purchasing your tickets in advance online, that is, unless you’ve brought some high powered binoculars and enjoy waiting in ticket purchase lines!
Between getting to the park via taxi or public transportation and the time you’ll spend exploring, plan for about 2-3 hours to see everything. If you feel like taking a break, there’s a restaurant inside for pricey coffee with picturesque, albeit crowded views. If you’re hungry after your visit, stop by one of the many restaurants or cafes in the nearby Gracia neighborhood. Keep in mind, Park Güell is popular for a reason and, depending on the time of year, it can get crowded, so take off on your own and discover a little paradise along one of its many hidden trails. Alternatively, do as the locals and pause to relax as you listen to one of Park Güell’s resident busking musicians, you’re in Barcelona!
